Our
Beliefs: Biblical Basis
Rice BowlsTM Beliefs have been prayerfully derived from Biblical teaching, including the following Scriptures.
All verses from the New International Version (NIV)
translation.
We believe the Bible is a perfectly inspired revelation
of God’s character and purposes and therefore serves as the ultimate foundation
for all belief and behavior.
And how from infancy you have known the
holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in
Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may
be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
– II Timothy 3:15 – 17
We believe that there is one God who exists and expresses
Himself through the three persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. While God fulfills
different purposes through these three members of the Trinity, He is always one
God and the only God.
Then God said, "Let us make man in
our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the
birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground." – Genesis 1:26
Hear, O Israel: The
Lord our God, the Lord is one. – Deuteronomy 6:4
For this is what the
Lord says-- he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made
the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be
inhabited-- he says: "I am the Lord, and there is no other.” – Isaiah
45:18But after he had
considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
"Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,
because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth
to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his
people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had
said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give
birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God
with us." – Matthew 1:20-23
Then the eleven
disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain
where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but
some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit. – Matthew 28:16-19
“I and the Father are
one." – John 10:30
Then Peter said,
"Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied
to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received
for the land? Didn't it belong to you
before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal?
What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to
God." – Acts 5:3, 4
We believe man was created with the ability to recognize the
supreme value of God. He was designed to enjoy and honor God, but has failed to
do so through sinful actions and attitudes that are hostile to God.
Then God said,
"Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the
fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the
earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." –
Genesis 1:26
For although they knew
God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their
thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. – Romans
1:21
We believe the universe was created by God’s command,
is sustained by His power, and is guided by His sovereign control over all
things. As a result of man’s sin, the
world has experienced significant damage and thus contributes to man’s
suffering on earth.
In the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth. – Genesis 1:1
In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. –
John 1:1
The king's
heart is in the hand of the Lord; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he
pleases. – Proverbs 21:1
I form the
light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord,
do all these things. – Isaiah 45:7
In the past God spoke
to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but
in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of
all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's
glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his
powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the
right hand of the Majesty in heaven. – Hebrews 1:1-3
To Adam he said,
"Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I
commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of
you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will
produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
– Genesis 3:17,18
For the creation was
subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who
subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its
bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
– Romans 8:20,21
We believe Jesus is the Son of God who has existed in
equality with God throughout all eternity. He lived for thirty-three years on earth. He was conceived in the womb of a virgin and
lived a sinless life that was characterized by great teaching and
miracles. At the end of His life He
willingly died on a cross to absorb God’s wrath for our sin. He rose from the dead and ascended to heaven to
affirm His triumph over evil.
In the beginning was
the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in
the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made
that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. –
John 1:1-4
All this took place to
fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be
with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him
Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." – Matthew 1:22,23
Your attitude should
be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not
consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being
found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death--
even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave
him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Philippians
2:5-11
In the past God spoke
to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but
in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of
all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of
God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by
his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at
the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the
angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. – Hebrews 1:1-4
When he had received
the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head
and gave up his spirit. – John 19:30
"Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man
accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among
you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by
God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put
him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead,
freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to
keep its hold on him. David said about him: "'I saw the Lord always before
me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is
glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope, because you will
not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have
made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your
presence.' "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David
died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and
knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his
descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection
of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see
decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised
Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For David did not
ascend to heaven, and yet he said, "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit
at my right hand .” – Acts 2:22-34
He was delivered over
to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. – Romans
4:25
For what I received I
passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the
third day according to the Scriptures. – I Corinthians 15:3,4
We believe God enters into a relationship with all
individuals who place their full trust and hope in Jesus Christ. This saving
work of God frees the believer from sin’s guilt, sin’s dominance, and
eventually sin’s presence.
For it is by grace you
have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God – not by works, so that no one can boast. – Ephesians 2:8, 9
She will give birth to
a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people
from their sins. – Matthew 1:21
For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
Jesus answered,
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me.” – John 14:6
Salvation is found in
no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we
must be saved. – Acts 4:12
In the same way, count
yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let
sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer
the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer
yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer
the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall
not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. What then?
Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Don't
you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you
are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads
to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God
that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form
of teaching to which you were entrusted. – Romans 6:11-17
Therefore, there is
now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. – Romans 8:1
That if you confess
with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God
raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are
saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put
to shame." – Romans 10:9-11
For Christ died for
sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He
was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit. – I Peter 3:18
Dear friends, now we
are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we
know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
– I John 3:2
We believe salvation occurs as the Holy Spirit
persuades man to receive Christ and empowers him to honor God through obedience
and service.
When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and
righteousness and judgment. – John 16:8
For the Holy
Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say. – Luke 12:12
You, however, are
controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God
lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not
belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin,
yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who
raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead
will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
In the same way, the
Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but
the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And
he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit
intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. – Romans 8:9-11, 26,
27
Now to each one the
manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given
through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge
by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another
gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another
prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different
kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these
are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as
he determines. – I Corinthians 12:7-11
We believe that all Christ followers are connected
invisibly through their faith and visibly in the local church. It is through the body life of the church that
believers experience maximum growth as they celebrate and serve the Lord with
one another.
Just as each of
us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same
function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs
to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If
a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it
is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is
encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others,
let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is
showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
– Romans 12: 4-8
The body is a
unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many,
they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one
Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all
given the one Spirit to drink. Now the body is not made up of one part but of
many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to
the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. And
if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the
body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the
whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were
an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the
parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they
were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but
one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the
head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" On the contrary,
those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts
that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts
that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable
parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body
and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should
be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for
each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is
honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each
one of you is a part of it. – I Corinthians 12:12-27
We believe Jesus will return from heaven for the
purpose of reward and judgment. The
church will be brought into the Lord’s presence and live with Him forever. The unbelieving world will experience the
painful existence of eternal separation from God’s goodness and beauty.
For the Lord
himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the
archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise
first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up
together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be
with the Lord forever. – I Thessalonians 4:16,17
All this is evidence
that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the
kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is
just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you
who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is
revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish
those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They
will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of
the Lord and from the majesty of his power. – II Thessalonians 1:5-9
Listen, I tell you a
mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed – in a flash, in the
twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead
will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe
itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the
perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with
immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has
been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death,
is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the
law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus
Christ. – I Corinthians 15:51-57
Then I saw a great
white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his
presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small,
standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened,
which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done
as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death
and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged
according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake
of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found
written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. –
Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a new
heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed
away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City,
the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne
saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.
They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He
will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning
or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." – Revelation
21:1-4.
